Pregnancy, birth and parenting are major life experiences that hold the potential to take us higher than we've ever been, lower than we've ever been, and all points in-between. Therapeutic counselling can assist you in understanding where you're at, what you need and want, and how you can move closer to your goals.
As a long-time birth and family professional, I bring more than just a therapist's skill set to our work. In addition to being very familiar with the mental health and relationship challenges that can arise during the perinatal and parenting days, my experience as a childbirth educator and doula enables me to also able to draw upon a strong understanding of the physical and medical elements that can come into play. This unique blend of education and experience can be very helpful when a pregnancy, birth or postpartum period is particularly complex or difficult.
With respect to pregnancy, birth and parenthood, my experience includes:
- fertility journeys
- medically-complex circumstances
- healthy, physiologic labour in both home and hospital settings
- interventions, including induction, epidural, assisted delivery and Cesarean birth
- prematurity and NICU experiences
- spontaneous and elective perinatal loss and bereavement
- physical and psychological birth trauma
- breastfeeding, bottle feeding and medically-assisted feeding
- various developmental and health concerns, include mood challenges
- baby, sibling and parent care
- two-parent and blended families, intentional and unintentional single parents
- 2SLGBTQ+ parents and children

In addition to counselling and therapy services, I also provide group and private childbirth education. The distinct type of education I offer is hypnobirthing. Both the physical and psychosocial aspects of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period are well-addressed. While applicable for almost all birthing people, my classes are especially valuable for those experiencing worry or anxiety in advance of their labour. Birth companions are given practical and heartfelt means with which to provide support. Effective tools and comprehensive, evidence-based information are offered for both the birthing parent and their supporters in order to enhance safety, calm and connection. Peace and empowerment are the chief aims, and diverse wishes for birth and the postpartum period are thoroughly respected and supported.

Please note: Childbirth education is not part of the social work services I provide, and therefore not claimable as a health care expense unless your benefits specifically cover childbirth education.
